Founded by Sarah Kelsch
MirthTale was founded in Berlin in January 2026 by Sarah Kelsch. It started with something she noticed at bedtime: every book on the shelf had been written for thousands of children, and the one on her lap wanted a book written for her.
The first prototype was a second-hand printer, a microphone, and a stapler on a kitchen table. The bound book and the small display came later, after a spring of bedtime testing with twelve families around Berlin. The one rule that has never changed: the screen is not the book.
We are a small team of hardware engineers, an illustrator, a former kindergarten teacher, and a lot of parents. If you would like to talk to us, we read every message.
What we believe
An audience of one
A child needs one reader beside them, not thousands. We design for that reader.
Conversation is the product
The book is the excuse. The talking before, during, and after is what helps a child grow.
Screens should go dark
A display can show a cover. It should never become the thing the child looks at.
Tomorrow matters
A good book gets read again. Ours are built to be found on the shelf next week.
As little data as possible
We keep what we must to make a book and nothing more. Our Privacy Policy says so in detail.
