An AI-powered storybook maker with one button, one dial, one slot, and a display that goes dark.
The display
A small e-paper panel. It shows the cover while the book prints and then goes dark. It cannot show the story and it cannot be scrolled.
The microphone
Listens only while the button is held. A soft light shows when it is on. Nothing is recorded when the light is off.
The paper
A refill roll of thick matte stock loads from the back. One roll makes around forty books at age five, more at younger ages.
Story Pack bay
A slot on the side for the physical pack. Packs click in and out. Only one is active at a time.
Power
A single cable. There is no battery to charge and nothing to pair. Plug it in and press the button.
The AI inside
MirthTale's AI writes the story and draws the illustrations from your child's choices, for the age on the dial. It works without a phone or app; a caregiver page on the web is only for ordering paper and packs.
Design principles
- Anything a child touches should do one thing.
- The screen shows a cover, never a page.
- If it needs an instruction manual, it is wrong.
- Paper and ink should be replaceable in under a minute by a tired adult.
- Nothing should glow after the book is out.
